Dr Lucy Thomas is a Consultant Dermatologist at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, where she conducts skin cancer and complex medical dermatology clinics. Privately she specialises in inflammatory skin disease with a strong focus on the management of acne and rosacea.
With a strong passion for innovation and digital health, she has delivered multiple transformation projects within the NHS. She has received grant funding from L’Oreal for a unique partnership between industry and the NHS which supports this innovative work. She co-developed an award-winning teledermatology service for urgent skin cancer referrals, which was recognised with the BMJ Dermatology Team of the Year award in 2020. She also co-authored the updated Teledermatology Roadmap and served on the British Association of Dermatologists' Teledermatology Committee.
A national and international leader in the application of AI in dermatology, she spearheaded deployment of world first autonomous AI technology into a cancer diagnostic pathway. This ground-breaking work earned HSJ Awards for its impact on clinical safety and for the most effective contribution to improving cancer outcomes. This work has been showcased in the main-stream media with articles in The Times and coverage on BBC Radio 4, ITN and BBC London News.
She is the principle author of the AI in Dermatology Implementation Toolkit (published on NHS Futures) to disseminate best practice and support adoption, and advises on digital dermatology strategy. She also serves as an independent consultant and sits on the Clinical Advisory Board for Skin Analytics Ltd.
