Bright Med has released a new interactive PASI (Psoriasis Area and Severity Index) calculator with visual reference for darker skin tones, unveiled live at the 106th Annual Meeting of the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) in Manchester, 30 June to 2 July 2026. It's free, it's live on the platform today, and it's built to do something no mainstream PASI tool has done well before: score psoriasis severity accurately across all skin types, including skin of colour.
What OUR PASI calculator does
The tool guides you step by step through all four PASI body regions — head and neck, upper limbs, trunk, and lower limbs — prompting you to score erythema, induration, and desquamation in each. At every step, clear visual reference images show you exactly what each severity grade looks like, so scoring becomes fast, consistent, and confident rather than a judgement call from memory.

Built for PSORIASIS IN skin of colour
The reference images have been developed using artificial intelligence to depict erythema, induration, and desquamation across the full range of skin tones — not just the fair skin that dominates most existing training resources. Standard PASI scoring is known to under-read erythema in darker skin, where inflammation presents as a different hue rather than bright red. Bright Med believes this is one of the first PASI tools to build skin of colour into the core scoring experience rather than bolt it on as an afterthought.
The image set is already clear and clinically useful, and it won't stand still: Bright Med is committed to continuously refining and expanding it with clinical feedback to keep pace with real-world presentation.
The response TO THE psoriasis PASI CALCULATOR for skin of colour at BAD 2026
Demonstrated live on the exhibition floor, the calculator drew an enthusiastic reception from attending nurses, GPs, and dermatology specialists — many telling Bright Med this was a tool they'd wanted for years.
Free today, with more to come
The psoriasis PASI calculator for skin of colour is available now, at no cost, to every Bright Med member — and it's just the first of several interactive, technology-led tools Bright Med will be bringing to the platform over the coming months.
